The Central South Consortium is comprised of the following five Local Authorities: Caerphilly, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf and the Vale of Glamorgan. Over the duration of the RAISE grant 208 of our schools, representing 53% of the total have met the criteria for RAISE funding. All of those schools have received visits/support from their LA or the Regional Coordinator, having embarked on a diverse range of programmes designed to tackle the needs of our disadvantaged population. The projects that have evolved have ranged from one-to-one targeted basic skills interventions to programmes designed to improve the emotional resilience of pupils, or to engage them in alternative pathways to learning. Our schools have been happy to share their best practices in both regional and national events, and have contributed to a host of case studies and resources that will undoubtedly prove useful to colleagues throughout Wales. Their collaboration and commitment to the RAISE objective is no better exemplified than in the exciting project planning that is currently underway for 2009-2010.
